It could explain the endings.. Squeek could have his property taken away, and if you didn't try to save anyone, and the bad ending would thoroughly explain that he wasn't welcome to the Naturalists in any way, and that he is only rebelling because of the property he lost. An act of greed that would make Abe and Munch die for trusting him, and Squeek getting a death sentence by his own worker buddies..
