Speaking of gasses, what exactly is the laughing gas? Is there type of substance in real life that gives people the "giggles" like that, or is it an OWI creation?

There is. It is called nitrous oxide (N2O). It would have near enough the same effect on humans as it would on mudokons.

Why is Abe not affected by the laughing gas?

He can probably resist the effects.
