Blender is very confusing, yes.
Try some tutorials. When you get the hang of it you can do shit like this.

Actually you can create such good model on every serious 3D app... For that kind of model best choice is digital sculpting application. Blender is just standard 3D modeling program and as far as i know it sculpting capabilies are lower than programs dedicated mainly for sculpting.
However i must admit that blender is powerull aplication
