Fairly stupid thing to do though. First it's the ship they attacked, then the random North Korean firing across the de-militiarized zone, now this. The stupid is astounding.
By the way, is 'militiarized' proper British English? Militiarised doesn't seem correct.

I would say that 'militiarized' would be a verb meaning 'to create a militia'. I think you're looking for militarized/militarised.
And, relevant to the topic, the newspaper this morning suggested that all this had to do with Kim Jong-Il appointing his son as his successor; apparently the new guy wants to prove he has the cojones for the job.
