I don't like Smartphones. i've just got a simple phone that can ring and text like a phone should.

You know, if that's your only need, I can see why you'd say that.
I really used to think that all these multifunctional phones are useless. I mean I have a computer with internet. I have games. I have a calendar.
But for some people, multi-functional phones are an essential part of their lives. Specially if they don't have enough time to spend at home, or don't always have the room for a bigger calendar.
Having a convenient phone to remind you of your meetings, errands, contacts with access to the internet for quick email-lookup is extremely important for some.
So yea... They aren't necessary, but they make life a little easier for those who benefit from them.
