It's true that it didn't sell well right out of the gate, but Psychonauts is one of those rare games that keeps selling and selling and selling as time goes on. It went on to sell a very respectable number of units. At least, according to Tim Schafer it has.
That's why I used the word 'revenue' instead of 'sales'. Most of those were at Steam's $10 pricepoint. Whilst that may well be profitable for Doublefine in the long run, it's not all that attractive to a publisher who wants a premium, retail-box game.
