I don't think you can immediately dismiss 3D Oddworld games purely on the reception of MO.
Yes, the 2D games were fantastic, but I think if enough time and energy were spent on a 3D Oddworld game it could be amazing.

Seconded. CGI Quality of gameplay is near possible. The artists that Lorne and Sherry are should be able to use the most recent techniques for creating gameplay environments that look so incredibly rich. It's the amazing backgrounds that did it for me, in Abe's Exodus.
