Can't remember which level it was, but you could see Scarabs, Wraiths and Scorpions fighting in the distance.
The feeling of hopelessness was shown in the level 'Exodus', when you're in the Falcon passenger seat and watch as Brutes tear the shit out of civilians.
@Hazel-Rah: Did you get the achievement where the Scorpion tank doesn't get destroyed? Shades fuck me off...
