I admit, I quite like that notion. As unfortunate as it could be.
I suppose its Lorne-like to go to all that effort just to make a point.. even if he couldn't have other things in the game.

Why else would they go to the trouble of creating a 3d model of an Elum body just to show it for a minute at the end of the game with no real relevance to what was going on with the story UNLESS they had been planning to have Elum as a character you could ride in the game? It seemed to me that they developed the model but didn't get the time to incorporate the gameplay mechanics/levels/animations for it. There are concept art images for Munch's Oddysee showing Mudokons on Elums....
I know the Vykkers liked to experiment on animals, and maybe I'm reading too much into this, but something tells me this was them attempting to salvage what little work they completed with the Elum while at the same time showing their frustration with it all.
