Chapter 7
Night Shifts
The night drew in and it was time for Tarios, Skye and the others to move out and for the others to hatch out their plan. “Alright people, this is it” said Kemi looking over the group, “this is our final push to the S District, we won’t get caught this time and we won’t fail this time”. There was a strict rule on not being allowed in the streets after the sun had set unless under direct permission and supervision under a soldier or the nearest CP outpost. So this time, they were going to break a rule or two. “Alright people, let’s move out, and let’s hope the new guy doesn’t get killed out there” Kemi finished with a quick wink towards Yarza and Garia. They both tugged a small evil smile; Tarios and Skye didn’t notice this. The group walked up the steps and Kemi opened the door to the alleyway. The group headed out into the night, the search for the settlement had begun.
Meanwhile back at the prison, Valken and Vankor sat and waited patiently for anything to stir up. The occasional Rat scurried out of its hole in the concrete wall to look for any crumbs of food on the floor. Valken and Vankor were given a Scrab Cake as a snack for the last bit of the day, so there had to be some crumbs left on the hard floor. Eventually, something did stir up as a prison guard opened the cell gate. He looked like any soldier from outside but his uniform was different. Instead of green camouflage, he wore navy blue armour, gas mask and clothing. He looked at the two prisoners eyeing him; suspense was in the air. “Things have changed” the prison guard said with a dark tone in his voice, “you two are moving out to a security outpost in the S District, were moving out now”. The two prisoners stood up from their beds as the guard stepped out of the cell and out into the main detention area. The prisoners followed him with no other choice and took a good view of the detention area.
The room was huge, with at least 200 cells holding two prisoners in each cell. Valken and Vankor kept their emotions inside themselves to avoid attracting any attention from the guards. They walked on a narrow, metal catwalk held up by steel cables attached to the walls. There were also at least 40 guards, 2 patrolling each catwalk with 10 cells on each. Vankor and Valken just kept on walking behind the prison guard and kept their thoughts to themselves. Their new time at the outpost was only minutes away.
