I always find Americans using 'zeds' instead of 'eSses' to be really unsettling. Feels so dirty. I haven't been tainted enough to use such a thing yet.

Actually, "z"s and "s"s can be used interchangeably in both British and American English. The only time you can't use a "z" in British English is in words like "analyse". If you spelt it "analyze" over here, you'd be wrong.
