Why was this on the news? Haiti and Pakistan haven't stopped being in the shit, while this cat was only temporarily inconvenienced. I've known people who make a habit of flushing live hamsters down toilets and deliberately running over pets in the street, much worse than Bin Cat, but still pales in comparison to important, on-going events

The "important" news is always on. It is my belief that people are just that little bit bored of it nowadays.
At least you compared this to concerns about earthquake and flood issues. If you'd said something about "the war", well, then that'd be something unbearable.
Also, how can one have a habit of flushing live hamsters down the toilet? That sounds more like more of an addiction than a habit, especially if they have to go out of their own way to purchase and then flush animals for their own sick amusement...
