Jan was tired and fed up; he'd been looking everywhere for the little pest, and was beginning to think that thing that had been randimly slaughtering the townsfolk had got her when;

“Aura…!” Dammit, there she was… for some odd reason she was with a glukkon, him carrying her, apparently not too bothered by her maskless face, with her head on his shoulder. He guessed they weren’t on bad terms; the glukk would probably never have offered to carry her otherwise, especially as her head – and by that token, her often excruciating voice as well – was right by his ear.

“Hey… hey!” He ran over, waving his arms. “Aura, what the frack do you think you’ve been playing at?! I spent three whole bloody days looking for you…!”

She hunched her shoulders. “I was scared,” she mumbled into the glukkon’s neck.

“Yeah, well, so was I! Dammit, I thought that… that thing had got you…!”

She visibly winced at the mention of that Thing.

“Aura…?” Jan asked, faintly.

“She had a bit of a run in with him,” the glukkon supplied. “She’s actually pretty lucky to still be alive. I’m guessing you’re her companion.”

Jan just nodded, mutely, at first, then remembered his manners. “Yes. Um,” he scratched his head. “Thanks for finding her, I guess.”

“No problem,” the glukkon nodded. “You want to get down now?” he turned his attention to Aura, who was staring about herself with fever-bright eyes. She still looked somewhat shaken, although not half as skittish as when they’d found her…

She nodded and simply let go, and slithered to the ground without any of her usual finesse. She landed with a whump, gave her head a shake, and then stretched out an arm to Jan. She hid her head under his chin the second he’d picked her up, clinging to him like she was a hatchling again.

“Y’won let ‘im get me, will yer, Jan…?” she implored, shivering, chewing her fingers.

“I won’t let anyone get you,” he said, gently.

“An’ we c’n leave tomorrer mornin’, right? Jus’ like yer said.”

“Yes, we can leave in the morning…”

“Um… I wouldn’t advise that, you know,” the glukkon demurred.

Jan looked up. “You wouldn’t?”

“Not with Him on the loose, anyway…” the glukkon shifted his handfeet, looking concerned. “Listen, I better be going…”

There was a distant shout. “Hey, Jan…!”

Jan turned to see who’d called, and the glukkon took his chance to slip away.

There was Blue, approaching at a heavy trot, from the direction of the town square. “I’ve been looking all over for you two…” she said, looking a little out of breath.
