It's because Abe's Exoddus isn't essential to understand the story. AO has Abe discover and accept his fate as saviour of his people. AE is just him doing that for a bit before the real story begins with the rescue of Sam, the trial of Molluck and the freedom of the last Gabbit alive in MO. Or one third of that, anyway.

btw, I've no idea who Sam is, or what the trial of Mullock the gluckon is all about.. but don't tell me!.. Wait, didn't Mullock the Glukkon get all electrocuted by the mudokon magic beams at the end of Abe's Oddysee???
