The things that even the most well intentioned and kindest of Christians say and do on a daily basis shows that they don't really take their religion seriously. What they do take seriously is the societal norm. They confuse what is normal for their society as being what their religion says is okay. They do this because they haven't bothered reading their source material.

There is no way that if these people actually believed that they were being watched by an all knowing entity that they would live their lives the way that they do. Sex out of wedlock, smoking, drinking, cursing, cheating, conniving, lying.... You wouldn't do these things if your father was standing behind you, and you both agreed that they are wrong.
