One of the best explanations I've heard is that certain environmental conditions are capable of "recording" moments in time. This is backed up by environmental consistencies in active areas, such as a high concentration of quartz in the rock. When the conditions are right again, the moment replays. Science at the moment hasn't been able to explain how this works. Many ignorant skeptics believe that if science can't explain it now, then it will never be explained. Because we all know science totally isn't a progressive practice, right?

Erm... 'Science' hasn't been able to explain how this works simply because Science says that it simply doesn't work. No explanation needed.
Science also states that most claims of paranormal or supernatural activity can easily be explained with reference to the fields of Psychology and Human Biology. I would suggest you read
