I don't really like Creed or Lady Gaga, but whatever. Yeah I think a lot of them are sellouts, but at least they are making a business. They are making music for the majority of the people, and getting rich off it, so they know what they're doing. TV on the Radio is basically becoming mainstream. I like Bjork's music. And seriously Beyonce has a beautiful voice. I like a lot of indie or underground kinds of music mostly, but I don't think people should hate mainstream artists because they think their message isn't deep enough.
It isn't about a message. It's about honesty. Substance. It's also not about being mainstream. Great music does occasionally become popular. Radiohead, for instance.

Also, I don't deny that these people use their instruments well, that they have talent, or that they have business savvy. I merely object to art being created for the purpose of money, and not for the sake of the art. It's okay to make money off of art. That's fine. But if your only intention is to make a salable product then you are ultimately going to make some shitty music.
