I cannot fathom why anyone would want to play as the marine, it's like choosing Human for a race in Warcraft.

The challenge, perhaps? The helpless feeling of being surrounded by creatures which are way more effective in low-light environments than you are, but you still fight them, no matter how much you want to run out of the room in RL?... And the radar beeping!
Judging from the poll, I'm quite alone in this. Either way, Alien is fun, while Marine is constant horror.
