My problem is that because my hearing is slightly deficient, things are less loud (a durr) so I need loud music=hearing affected more=need louder music

or more insulated sound cancelling/isolating headphones (usually called "closed air"). i'd recommend these
as a good entry level closed air headphone.
less outside noise = less inclination to turn mp3 player up louder
