I have just read two of my Christmas books.

Eoin Colfer's And Another Thing. Decent, better than the last two of Douglas's books in the "trilogy". Definitely feels like H2G2, though reads differently, obviously. It completes the trend that began in an earlier book, by now seemingly every god exists apart from the Abrahamic one. They also seem to be very expensive.

Terry Pratchett's Unseen Academicals. This time charting the evolution and emergence of Association Football as we know it on the Discworld (and of fashion models), but as the book goes on you get the suspicion that there is an entirely separate story coming into play, far more important to the nature of the Discworld. Suspicions that were confirmed. Certainly we get a brief, fascinating and shocking glimpse into a period from its history that I had never heard of (though I admit I haven't read all of the older novels yet). We also get a good look at the non-academic staff of UU, and of the evolving relationship between wizarding universities in an age where wizards are a lot less careless about hurling fireballs than they once were. Pratchett on top form.
