The Xbox doesn't just look at the files on the disc; the discs are actually burnt in a specific pattern, leaving occassional gaps that are ignored by the DVD drive. To the best of my knowledge, no-one has managed to get a DVD burner to replicate this.
Now, if the Xbox is modchipped, on the other hand...

when SW first came out i ripped it to my hd because it ran realllly badly off the dvd (would freeze/skip all the cutscene a lot). i'm glad with the 360 they made this a legitimate option.
for the fucking record just before you all start crying, i ripped
my copy of stranger's wrath, that i bought the very first day it became available. to this day i am pissed i don't have the bonus dvd that everyone else seemed to get.
