When the author's view on it is obvious self deception, I think it does matter.

You don't know that, so you really can't do anything but assume.
To clear this up, that picture of Watarase Jun is fanart, not an official image. His character in the show and dating sim is a childhood friend of the main character who dresses like that for the "good" of his friend, but the protagonist has no interest because he's not gay. So Jun is the only character you can't have sex with in the game, or even romance.
