I played Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus on the PSP. The control setup I use is as follows;

L=R1
R=R2

(this means you can hold L/R and move without any problems)

Analog Nub Left = L1
Analog Nub Right = L2

Now, while this may seem totally crazy at first, I'll explain why it isn't.
Firstly, it's the only logical place to put the keys when all the other spots are taken.
Secondly, you do not move and talk at the same time. Hence, you'll have plenty of time to press the Nub and one of the PS1 buttons to speak. As for Chanting, you can either program Up on the Nub to be L1+L2, or hold the L and R buttons (I think?).

I'll admit it takes a bit of getting used to, but now I'm pretty much a pro with this method. I saved 100% of mudokons using these control methods, so it doesn't hamper you in any way.
