Hm.. really dark. I like it =D. I suspect you drew a lil inspiration from the mermaid thingies?? Dunno though. I should expand on my own ideas too at some point.

Anyway I think this story is very true to the nature of Oddworld, and it made me feel very sad for the mudokons =(

Actually it reminded me a tiny bit about that movie about concentration camps with Kirsten Dunst. Dunno if you've seen it.
