No, it's ironic. I don't think any Japanese people would be offended if you showed them a character with 4 fingers.
The irony is that the Mudokons are working in a meat-packing factory and if they accidentally lost a finger the Japanese authoritys wouldn't mind!
That's called extortion!
Fox and Disney probably have to pay loads to get thier stuff into the country. The only reason The Simpsons and Micy Mouse still have 4 fingers is because they had enough money to supply to Japan AND pay the extortionate authorities.
