In addition to my last post, one of the strengths of the books was that it didn't glamorise the kids' actions. They killed people, blew up ports with massive bombs, attacked their enemy's bases, destroyed bridges, etc but they were incredibly conflicted about what they'd done and the lives they'd taken. Can you see that coming across in a movie?
No, it's going to become an action film with explosions happening in slow motion and the audience cheering as the gooks get killed.
