If I were writing such a hoax, I would have been far more subtle. I would have started talking about how scientists drilling a hole have made an unexpected discovery. Then I would have reported high pitched wailing sounds, but in such a way as to keep it vague yet threatening. Finally, I would have said that the shaken scientists were cautiously proceeding - written in such a way as to make them sound foolhardy for continuing such a clearly dangerous project.
