Hey Alex, I just read Silpher's pack. Gotta say I enjoyed it. Your characterisation is very good; you've clearly got an idea for each of these 13 people, and some of them are pretty well developed.

My main criticism (of the constructive variety I hope) is just the lack of plot; throughout the first story, nothing much exciting happens. Everything goes too smoothly.

For the last year I've been living with about 15 other people, and I can't say we've all gotten on perfectly all that time; people argue, disagree with one another and get on each other's nerves; it's life! I can't see 13 people living together and never having a disagreement. Hints of this have almost been given (people saying they talk too much for instance) but haven't gone anywhere. Everyone gets on so well, it's not realistic, and rather... kiddy.
The other thing is the plot has been pretty bland; nothing much has happened; there has been no real peril or obstacles. They instantly and easily adapted to life in the wild, with no regrets or difficulties in leaving behind the industrial life. No real dangers or even everyday difficulties have occurred. I was also a little bit bugged by how you gave the suggestion of trouble through Silpher's suspicions after Magnus' power was discovered, but that was never developed (are there other powers or genetic problems lurking in their manufactured genes?), or Bitsy's refusal to eat meat, which doesn't seem to have caused any trouble what-so-ever; if she was made to eat meat, surely not doing so would have an effect on her health? And are the others really finding it so easy to provide her with her own food?
Also, why did the vykker's create them? Did they really make them to wander free in the wild? Don't they care that they've left? Is their interest in them suddenly gone now they're out the door? Why did they create them at all if they had such short-term interest in them? It just doesn't seem to make sense!

But your characters are great and interesting enough to hold together the story, but their ability to get along so well is a little bit 'Sesame Street'ish, and not much of interest has happened plotwise. It's still an enjoyable story, and it would be great to see the plot and characters developed further in this and possibly other sequels! I do look forward to seeing where these guys end up! But I would love to see them in some mortal peril, too! Just think of everything that went wrong, and kept going wrong, for Spider and the gang!

Hope this hasn't discouraged you; that wasn't my intention at all! I look forward to reading more, and following the story from Tulia's perspective could well be interesting. I'd just like to see the plot weave a little!

Splat.
