I can't agree with this. The industrial revolution was one of a kind, most societies kept themselves to tradition. If anything, humans have it in their biology to be tribal, since that is the social environment in which our biology evolved. Sentience allows us to go past our natural predispositions and develop new ways of living; it's not because the industrialist way of living, once developed, is enormously dominant that it is natural, though it's strength in the modern world may give that impression.
We can't forget that we have layer upon layer of culture, and a lot of those layers development are needed for a society like ours to function.
