That depends on how responsible you are IMO. Especially in America (in some states you don't even need a permit to hold something like a tiger) things sometimes get out of hand and people neglect their 'pet'. But there are also a lot of people who are responsible and take care of their pets like they should. I, and the responsible owners of said animals, agree that exotic animals should not be treated as lightly as a cat or a dog. You need to have good knowledge of what you're doing and that's where some American states drop the ball sometimes. By just giving permits to people who have no clue as to what they are doing.
The ironic truth is however, that the animals would probably be better off with these people then they would with PETA.
