the long forgotten COMMANDER KEEN SERIES always reminds me of oddworld.
That's odd considering Commander Keen, good series as it is, is nothing like Oddworld IMO. :S It's far too cartoony and lacks the atmosphere. Plus the controls are totally different 'cause Keen "floats" when he jumps.

Anyway, the closest game I've seen that's "Like" Oddworld is Beyond Good and Evil. It's a 3D third-person game, rather than a 2D platformer, but it has a similar atmosphere to, with just as much creativity as Abe's Oddysee. Alright so the universe and creatures are not the same, but you still have to sneak into facilities and such.

But yeah, also try BlackThorne - See if you can get the SNES version on a ROM and emulate with Snes 9x. You'll want the "Quicksave" and "Quickload" functions that the emulator provides, else the game won't be much fun 'cause you have to start the whole level over again if you run out of health and die, like most old DOS games. It plays a lot like the Abe games, but it's a bit harder and the storyline is a lot shallower. But it's a good game too. It's weird to see that Blizzard was doing that kind of thing in 1994 though.
