Everyone finds their niche and wars and shit don't happen. Also, a "higher power" grants prayers not because of mindless devotion or the doing of good deeds, but because something is given up by the person praying and by doing so, the person grows by managing without what is given up. And people have superpowers and together we build a vast federation across the stars.
