What’s the point in Stream? Steam is digital distribution, a method of selling games that doesn’t involve trucks transporting raw materials from factory to factory to produce discs and cases and deliver them to retail centres that consumers have to travel to. Content is available directly to the consumer, bypassing the traditional developer–distributor/publisher relationship that’s left OWI in the lurch so many times already. Lorne and Co. are huge supporters of this, and admire Valve greatly for Steam.
What’s the point in releasing AO and AE on Steam? It means that OWI get money for sales. It means that the games are now available to anyone, and not just the lucky few who can scab remnant copies from eBay, carboot sales, and outback outlets. It means that the games can in no way be considered abandonware, so that argument for illegally downloading AO and AE is now even more flawed that it would otherwise be.
And U.S.$15 for both games? How is that in any way overpriced for Oddworld?
