Hmmm... considering Nintendo is trying to bridge the gap between casual and hardcore and try to introduce to people to gaming, all their efforts seem to do is for people to label themselves one way or another and therefore widen the divide. They aren’t doing wonder’s for their image either. If they just left this casual/hardcore thing alone (they are bullshit terms anyway) and concentrated on making things accessible but enjoyable, then some real progress would be made. Still, with Galaxy, Wii Sports and Brawl, they seem to be doing a good job, but that is something for another thread.
At any rate, I think that Oddworld is one of the those games that fits in with Nintendo's philosophy- it's a far cry from either Wii Sports or Halo 3, but sits nicely in-between as a game with characters, storyline and gameplay that everyone can love and appreciate. Younger gamers will love the slapstick comedy, and older games will value the hidden meanings and themes.
However, one way Oddworld goes about this is with it’s stunning environments and character design, and for a next-gen Oddworld I really don't think that the Wii could pull it off.
As for motion controls... I'm unsure. It could, of course, just become horribly tacked on and not add anything to the experience, but at the same time it could make the game just that little more accessible and immersive.
All the same, I'd like to see some sort of Oddworld on the Wii, to see how it fairs and how OI use motion controls. I thought that a port of MO with improved graphics and some of the Beta gameplay features, or maybe Strangers Wrath with MP3 type controls.
I still think that 360 is probably the best, mind. It has the power and a much wider audience then the PS3. Oddworld also has the potential from some amusing Achievements.
Now, do you think that Oddworld would benefit from online play? Co-op?
