You can decide not to by following your head, you know. Examine the issue before you get involved. You've just encountered some random person who is telling you to brutally destroy an animal in return for cash. Is this the sort of person you want to associate with? Is this the sort of person you can trust to pay up afterwards? Are there not safer and longer-term options for work available elsewhere? Of course I'd rather not kill the animal either, so here is a circumstance where my head and heart reach the same conclusion.

Other people might not. They might calculate present need/cost (head) or be willing to get short-term gain in exchange for long-term vulnerability (heart).

The thing about emotions is that, while they may lead you to think about others sometimes, they, by their very nature, tend to put one's own needs first.
