From personal experience, it's normally a lot better to just go with the flow instead of overanalyzing things. It's good to muse, wonder, and question, but don't get so wrapped up in your thoughts that you lose sight of what you originally set out for, and that was my pretentious piece of advice for today.
I've heard of that Blink, Nate. The beginning at least. Pretty amazing what the human mind can do sometimes. That's part of the reason why I kind of want to go into psychology/neuroscience/whatever field that encompasses.
