Actually, schools are great open forums. While the government does indeed set the curriculum (and come on, it's not set by the guys at the top, and in a democracy people do have a voice to pressure a change), they cannot control the teachers thoughts and opinions. Teachers (mine at least) are more than willing to share knowledge not examined by standardised tests.
So long as the is a free media and free speech, they won't be able to control us that way, assuming of course that they even have the incentive. Unless you are a conspiracy buff, in which case, ceiling government is watching you masturbate.
