Beyond Good and Evil. :P While being in a completely different universe with different characters, it's just as nicely made and just as atmospheric as AO. You'll like it. Plus it's available for pretty much every console that was around in 2003.

I don't know if you like puzzle games, but if you want a pc game that matches the visual beauty of the oddworld pc games, then I recomend Beyond Atlantis. It's the second game of the Atlantis series, and the only one I've played. You explore the mythologies of the ancient Chinese, Mayans, and medieval Ireland. It's an absolutely beautiful game despite its age.
