Just some thoughts. It's just the stance I've had on this topic for a little while.

There are too many humans on the planet anyway - suicide shouldn't be a crime. People who want to kill themselves to end their suffering should be allowed to do so (and I don't mean those Emo kids - They need counseling. I mean people who are physically suffering with no chance of having a good quality of life). If they need help to do so from a doctor or family member, this should be allowed too, so long as its done with consent, telling the law what they're doing beforehand and doing it in controlled conditions. The doctor or family member should not be held responsible or charged with murder in this case either.

Of course, each case would need to be reviewed legally and stuff. Maybe people wising to commit suicide could be given some sort of test or interview to make sure they're mentally stable enough to make that kind of decision, but I dunno about this 'cause even psychiatrists can be wrong when they think up the questions that they'd need to ask. But something like this would be able to separate those who are mentally ill and need counseling and those who are physically suffering. Maybe some people who are mentally ill would be better off dead anyway.

You'd also have to be careful if the person isn't able to make the decision themselves and a family member wanted to make the decision for them. But eh, I can't be bothered to think about this any more tonight.

What the hell, you all see where I'm going with this, right? One is sure though, depending on the conditions, such as that french woman, denying the right to end your own life if you're suffering is very damned cruel.
