I would recommend all to read the book
The Luck Factor by Richard Wiseman. He's a psychologist who's actually done studies on people who consider themselves lucky or unlucky and discovered (big surprise) that there really is no such thing as luck - it's all in your mind. The book lists the good habits of lucky people - mainly about being positive, being gregarious (luck comes from your relationships with other people), noticing opportunities when they occur and being able to pick yourself up after a fall.
I won't give any more detail than that because I wouldn't be able to do it justice. For now I'll just recommend everyone to go to the library and borrow it. I can only hope that you don't get what I did: a creepy librarian who, on seeing the title, told me that he hoped I'd "get lucky".
