I can see what he means and don't much care that he's taken rep for it but here's something I'm pondering: How the hell are you supposed to get good rep?! It seems that if it is a good post by a small person it's overlooked but bad posts are easily picked up.
Hey, here's a suggestion: maybe when taking rep less rep should be deducted then when giving rep...
