Hey, I have what I feel to be a very important question about how we give and take reputation. I’ve been looking at some of the comments made on people’s posts (take exception to this invasion of your privacy if you like, but I explained when it was first activated that the reputation system worried me, and I wanted to see roughly how it was bein used) and I’ve noticed that plenty of rep is given or taken on the grounds of ‘I agree’, ‘I disagree’, or ‘You shouldn’t do things like that in RL’.
But it was my impression reputation was meant to guage a user’s contribution to the Forums in various terms, so I’ve been reserving positive rep for well thought out analyses, explanations made for other users, and good ideas, and negative rep for careless, hurried posts, and borderline spam.
So are we using reputation to judge members by their behaviour on the Forums, or by how much we like them as people?
