New argument. Mudombies are Mudokons's spirits. They are the spirits that Abe freed when he went in Mudomo and Mudanchee Vaults. And in Necrum. But in the artbook, we can see a sort of zombie with a Mudokon body. And we don't see it in the game. So, have Mudombies been originally designed to have a body? A dead and putrescent body I mean.

Mudombies and mudokon spirits were always separate ideas. The spirits are the Weirdos who come to visit Abe, and what you release from spirit cages. Mudombies were the corpses of ancient mudokons up and about because of their spirit's unrest. But they were cut from Necrum, for whatever reasons.
