Ralph was relieved to see Anni seemed to accept his excuse easily. He was still watching the mudokon Doe when he suddenly seemed to feel something strange nearby. He turned to Anni again just as she suddenly jerked and Jim asked her "Are you ok?"
"Fine, I have a headache" came the reply.

Ralph could barely remember what a headache was, but he glanced at Jim, thinking Fine AND she has a headache?

Before he could say anything, though, she hurriedly stood up, knocking her chair over and rushed out of the room. Jim went rushing after her and Ralph was about to follow, but then he noticed the other mudokon he'd disliked the look of (Doe) moving up to where a dark female mudokon was talking with some others. He listened to Doe speaking, then turned away in disgust. He could still sense what he'd felt from Anni before, so following it he started heading towards the exit to the stockyards.

As he came down the passageway, however, he saw a vykker (Krik) heading the opposite way, apparently having just come from the train station. He was annoyed, if he'd known the vykker was coming he would've kept away until he'd gone past, but now the vykker would've seen him so he'd just have to keep going past, much as he despised them. He paused for a moment, then, making no effort to hide it, he moved as far away as he could from the vykker and carried on walking past.
