If you look at it another way, sloggies are powerful enough to kill Abe, so big slogs would have more than enough power. I personally liked Sloggies; they provided some variety in the enemies, particularly in the levels where there were both Slogs and Sloggies.

It’s a Yiddish word used as an insult in American English. Lorne used to work in the South Bronx, which apparently used to be known as the ‘Jewish Borough’ on account of its population reaching 50% Jewish at some point. It’s likely it still had a lot of Yiddish expressions in its dialect when Lorne was growing up there, hence his fondness for the term. This is all utterly speculative.

It's entered American parlance enough that you don't need to have lived in the Bronx to know what the word means.
EDIT: I always thought that schmuck literally meant penis but Wikipedia is telling me that it actually comes from the Yiddish word for foreskin. Woot for research!
