I've never understood the idea of faith as being something beautiful or admirable. Any idiot can believe something, and many idiots do. I have compiled a list:
1. The Taliban
2. The Romans
3. Timothy McVeigh
I'm not saying that belief is a useless concept, or a foolish one - often it's a comforting idea for people to rationalise the uncertainty and pain of life. What I am saying is that we should try not to jump to conclusions about things we cannot understand.
That said, I personally believe that the gradual evaporation of major churches will be a good thing if people discover other ways to find comfort and security in their lives. Short of killing people that disagree with these mentalities, of course.
