But to answer, ideally just make one frame, one image, scene, whatever.
No, you can do anything you want; the style doesn't have to follow. In the previous thread it changed very dramatically between the first two frames.
If the first person does 8-bit, you can do whatever you want. You can scrape it on a piece of wood with charcoal and beetle guts if you really felt the urge and your scanner could cope with it. Hand drawn, painted, computer drawn, we're not fussy. That's the fun of it.
