I agree with Majic. I happen to have suffered from bullying for the past 6 or 7 years, and the best thing to do is ignore the verbal abuse, or come up with a killer retort. Here's a 3-point rule my headteacher once taught me:
1) Ignore them
2) Walk away from them
3) Hit 'em so hard they don't get back up.
