(This is referring to the Scrab bit)To avoid the long wait until the timing is right, just start running from the previous screen and don't stop when you run into the problem screen. Then just as you approach the end of the ledge make a running jump, don't stop -- and practically a second or two after you land (and keep running) make a running jump again. You should catch the ledge (needless to say, get up immediately). Taking things at a run helps sometimes.
The reason you're running into the wall is that you're not run-jumping onto the ledge fast enough. The right timing for the jump is almost right after you land in the middle of the pen.

Now for the sligs:
This part is relatively easy to do (if you know what to do that is). There are many ways of doing this, but the second one involves complex timing and a lot of waiting. So I'll just say the first one.
Start from the screen just before the slig screen (with the UXB and the ledge and the hidden bird portal) and sneak into the slig screen. Keep going, right through the shadow, now sneak one step out of the shadow. As soon as the Sligs yell, "Freeze!" - start running back into the previous screen.
In the previous screen, stop. You should stop running relatively close to the left edge. One of the Sligs will follow you, but don't worry - as long as you're pretty close to the edge it won't notice you. However, as soon as you notice it running into your screen, run as fast as you can back into the screen where the second slig is remaining.
Without paying any attention to the slig whatsoever, run across the screen and run-jump onto the ledge.
