some indian tribe worshipped salmon as some kind of god of good-giving every spring. The first salmon landed was prayed over, roasted for everyone to try and then it's skeleton was returned whole to the river where they believed it would come alive again to provide food for next year.

Incidentally, mudokons had a similar belief about the annual migration of gabbits up the Mongo. Though without the eating part, obviously.
